Every year, Rutgers University runs a one-day-only public fundraising and social media event called Rutgers Giving Day to raise awareness of the university’s many programs and departments in an effort to raise money for program and department needs. In December 2021, I was tasked to lead the effort for our Meteorology Department’s fundraising page for Rutgers Giving Day to raise money for a new WSI MAX system for the Rutgers WeatherWatcher Club, a critical part of the program that needed to be replaced urgently. This included making a promotional video about why the department was raising funds for Rutgers Giving Day, collecting alumni testimonials for promotional purposes, recruiting ambassadors for the project to spread the word, and creating and distributing promotional material highlighting all of the alumni of the WeatherWatcher program on the day of the event. As a result of the Rutgers Giving Day Project, we raised more than $20,000 for the new graphics system, and the remaining funds were used to partially fund students to attend the AMS Conference.
